POTD 001: Write a chat dialogue where a secret is revealed.

It seems typical that when someone has a secret identity, it would be best to not tell so many people. But what would that someone do if their lover ended up finding out the hard way?  Or would it be better to let them know after the first time they have sex so that there aren't any surprises? After the first kiss? Before all of that?

Andrea thought about all of this as she was trying to figure out a way to tell Elijah about her true nature. No, she wasn't a superhero or anything.

In fact, she wasn't even human.

She looked into his eyes at that moment, him waiting patiently for her to start talking but curious to know what was going on. It was a little nerve-wrecking for her, having to reveal the one thing in her life that she wasn't so keen on telling, but he had to know if she wanted him to be part of her life.

She took a deep breath.

"Talk about suspense, right?" She gave a nervous laugh, playing with her hair in the way that he loved.

"What's going on, Andrea?

She fiddled with her thumbs, biting her lips. She knew that once she let it out, his entire world would change.

"I need to tell you something, and I can't have you freak out on me right now." She paused. "Do you promise to not freak out?"

He gave her a worried look. "You're scaring me, Drea. Why would I freak out?"

Hearing his nickname for her - the one that only he was allowed to call her - made her heart ache. What if he stopped talking to her after this? What if he left her for good?

What if he treated her like a freak?

"So you know how I don't really go to the beach very often, or even going swimming with you even though I love the ocean?"

...

"Yeah?"

"Well there's a reason for that."

...

"Okay... what's the reason, Drea?"

She cleared her throat, dry enough that she felt like she was suffocating. She couldn't do this. She just couldn't. But she had to.

"Well... let's just say that Ariel and I have a lot in common."

"Ariel... you mean The Little Mermaid, Ariel?"

"... Yeah."

Silence.

She knew it. She knew he was going to freak out, and now she just had to wait for the aftermath of revealing her true nature.

She closed her eyes and turned away from him, she couldn't bare to look at him and see the expression on his face.

But then she felt his hand on her face, slowing turning her to face him. The tears were running down her eyes, even though she saw nothing but love in his.

"Drea... I don't know why you didn't tell me before, but please stop crying. It may not have been what I was expecting, but there is absolutely nothing that you could say that would make me ever stop loving you."

He pulled her in closer for a kiss, a soft one that told her that everything would be okay, that made her trust that he was telling her the truth.

"I love you, Drea. And that's just one more thing that I can love about you. Thank you for telling me."
